India exported 10.43 lakh tonnes of onion in H1 2010

New Delhi, July 27 (PTI) India exported 10।43 lakh tonnesof onions, worth Rs 1,141 crore, in the first six months ofthe current year, the Parliament was informed today. During the January-June period, India exported 10.4 lakhtonnes of onions and, in value terms, the total shipment stoodat Rs 1,141 crore, Minister of State for Commerce and IndustryJyotiraditya M Scindia said while responding to a writtenquery in the Lok Sabha. The minister said that onion was being exported regularlyduring the last six months because there was no scarcity ofthe commodity in the domestic market during the period, whichled to the softening of its market price. "There was no upward trend in the price of onions in thedomestic market in this period," Scindia said, adding thatcooperative major National Agriculture Cooperation MarketingFederation of India (NAFED) has revised the minimum exportprice of onion by more than four times, in accordance withthe price trend in the domestic market.
